Trapped in ICT

ICT has been highly regarded for its effectiveness in educating our society more specifically our learners who are in most cases far advanced in technology than we their mentors are.Due to this advancement of theirs, most of the female learners are continuously been turned into victims of ICT devices. Through their interactions and chatting with various individuals unknown to them through the electronic devices, they become easily trapped and found and ultimaltely turned to slaves of porns and so on. Some of them even go missing by following the information of persons they have been chatting to. This then poses a challenge to us future ICT experts and we need to come up with strategies of combating such unacceptable behaviors and actions

  1. Imagine a situation where a rigid traditionalist from the old school of thought being expected to facilitate a subject on Sexuality Education. Strange hey! I think that is the situation with the current crop of learners vs. traditional parents and educators. When a person is employed, they usually go through an induction process to acquint him/her with the environment and tools to execute desire task. That is one unfortunate step that we usually skip when new gadgets are introduced, acquinting ourselves first so that we can demonstrate the responsible way of utilizing those gadgets.

I believe that the aim of technology is to simplify and create convenience in our lives. As adults we often divorce ourselves from the activities our kids are partaking in, thus leaving them to opportunistic perverts to take advantage.

Use the very tool (MXit; Facebook; Twitter; etc.) to interact or chat with your kids, it is cost-effective as compared to making a call.

We can't keep on blaming technology and our youngsters NOW, making reference to "In my time..." - this is NOW.
